Thank you for your interest in the Northeast Citizen Patrol (NECP). In response to growing crime rates and the increase in problem properties in Northeast/2 nd Precinct, the NECP has formed a multi-pronged approach to fighting crime and improving our neighborhoods. We need your support and/or involvement.

1. The NECP assists in the formation of neighborhood walking/biking groups . The walking/biking groups serve as a non-confrontational visual deterrent to crime, and get neighbors together to communicate about issues in their neighborhoods. Participants may also note and report graffiti and problem properties, which contribute to declining property values and livability issues in a neighborhood. NECP t-shirts, jackets and hats are available to give walking groups greater presence and visibility in neighborhoods. Volunteer to walk with morning, afternoon, early evening and/or late-night groups. See other side to volunteer.

2. Our website, www.nepatrol.org , offers extensive information and resources to help address crime and livability issues. The NECP also sends out a weekly email newsletter which contains 2nd Precinct crime alerts, problem properties, and other neighborhood crime and safety issues, calls-to-action, lists of felons and predators living in your neighborhood and news about other significant public safety developments in our community.

3. Problem properties significantly contribute to the downward slide of a neighborhood, so the NECP has formed a problem properties task force which is working on several levels to address problem properties. The NECP logs and tracks problem properties and works with the police, Minneapolis Inspections and other city and county officials to address issues related to problem properties. See other side to volunteer.

The NECP has the support of thousands of residents, several neighborhood organizations, the business community, the NE Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Northeast Community Development Corporation. We also have cooperative working relationships with the police, the City of Minneapolis Inspections Dept., Hennepin County Probation, the 2 nd Precinct community attorney and the Hennepin County Attorney’s office to find other ways to curb crime in the Northeast and the entire 2nd Precinct.

We need your support!

1. The NECP seeks persons to lead and/or participate in walking/biking groups in their neighborhoods. If you can meet consistently on a given day and time, you can be a walk/bike LEADER. Walk/Bike PARTICIPANTS may join as their schedule allows. We need walk/bike groups during all hours of the day and evening. If you want your neighborhood patrolled, you or your neighbors must step forward to lead or participate.

We are all in this together, and we must each take responsibility in our own neighborhoods. If you cannot LEAD a group, we ask you to PARTICIPATE in any of the current walking groups; there are many groups to fit your schedule. If you would like to lead or participate in a walk/bike group in your neighborhood, contact info@nepatrol.org or leave a message at 612.708.3064. Several groups already exist in Audubon, Beltrami, Bottineau, Columbia Park, Holland, Logan Park, Marshall Terrace, Sheridan, Waite Park and Windom Park. Please check out a group near you. If you would like to be a NECP walker or walk/patrol leader, please register at our special site for this: http://www.NECPREPORTS.org

2. Other volunteers needed: The NECP needs people with basic business skills to make phone calls, write thank you notes, fundraise, and do other special projects. Volunteers with Internet access are needed to help with crime data, arrest records and other online special projects less than one hour per week. Volunteers needed to organize supplied materials or data; computer data entry (spreadsheet); email data or information to project leaders; telephone follow-up of previous 311 reports; home printing of supplied letters, stuffing envelopes, mailing letters. Volunteers needed to watch televised City Council and subcommittee meetings and take notes regarding public safety issues/livability issues discussed.

Volunteers are also needed for the Problem Properties task force : track properties, track problem landlords, track activity at properties, track problem tenants and contact rental property owners about problem tenants/tenants with active arrest records, etc. Contact info@nepatrol.org or call 612.708.3064 for more info or to volunteer. We will fit projects to your schedule and availability.

3. At the very least, we ask you to subscribe to our weekly email newsletter, so that you may be well-informed regarding public safety issues and crime in your neighborhood, email info@nepatrol.org . You will receive weekly updates which include neighborhood crime alerts, info and statistics, lists of convicted felons and predators living in your neighborhood, resources for addressing problem properties and other neighborhood issues, calls-to-action, NECP success stories and other significant information about public safety developments in our community.

The NECP email list is confidential, and the NECP does not give/sell/rent its list to anyone else. You will not be contacted for anything other than NECP and crime related items, newsletters and information. The NECP newsletter is only available by email. However, limited quantities of the newsletter may be available at various locations for you to pick up and read. Check your neighborhood organization, local coffee shops and other businesses for a copy. If you do not have email, ask a friend or neighbor to subscribe and share the information with you and your neighbors.

4. The NECP is an all volunteer organization. You can help with your donations of cash, supplies or services. The NECP needs funds for t-shirts, jackets and hats, volunteer training, printing and advertising costs, communication equipment/air time and other supplies. Funds are also being raised to purchase a patrol vehicle to be used as a patrol vehicle by the NECP. To make a donation of funds, make your check to NECP, and send to NECP, PO Box 18619, Minneapolis, MN 55418.

Supplies or services may also be donated. Items needed: communication equipment, bottled water, copy paper, printing services, self-defense and CPR training, legal training, ad space, signage, fundraiser items and more. Contact the NECP if you would like to make a donation of supplies or services, 612.708.3064 or info@nepatrol.org .
